The event will take place at 10:00 AM on <strong>Wednesday, October 9, 2024<\/strong>, at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anselm.edu\/about\/offices-centers-institutes\/centers-institutes\/new-hampshire-institute-politics\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New Hampshire Institute of Politics<\/a>, where Grover Norquist will personally commend candidates for making a written commitment to their constituents not to raise taxes. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA candidate who signs the Taxpayer Protection Pledge has committed to oppose higher taxes,\u201d said Norquist. \u201cThat means that he or she will work to reform government to cost less, rather than raising taxes to &#8220;patch&#8221; failed programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attendees are asked to RSVP at: <a href=\"https:\/\/Tax-Pledge-Signing.eventbrite.com\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/Tax-Pledge-Signing.eventbrite.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn Anti-Tax Pledge was first advanced in 1972 by our Founder Governor Meldrim Thomson, Jr.,\u201d said Granite State Taxpayers Chairman Ray Chadwick. \u201cHis wisdom about the benefits of low taxes and low spending is even more pertinent today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thomson\u2019s Pledge, a part of his \u201cAx the Tax\u201d theme, is organized and promoted today by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atr.org\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Americans for Tax Reform<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Meldrim_Thomson.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Meldrim_Thomson.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_20181129_184347549\" width=\"230\" height=\"305\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3448\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/220px-Reagan_Abramoff_Norquist.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/220px-Reagan_Abramoff_Norquist.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_20181129_184313350\" width=\"450\" height=\"350\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3447\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With the endorsement of President Reagan in 1986, the pledge has become practically required for Republicans seeking office, and is a necessity for Democrats running in Republican districts.<\/p>\n<p>The Americans for Tax Reform website (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.atr.org\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">www.atr.org<\/a>) has a section, \u201cThe Pledge\u201d that identifies legislators and governors who have taken the Pledge, information about its meaning and benefits, and information for those who want to Take the Pledge.<\/p>\n<p>The Taxpayer Protection Pledge simply states <em><strong>\u201cI pledge to the taxpayers of New Hampshire that I will oppose and vote against\/veto any and all efforts to increase taxes.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Continuing a practice that it pioneered with <a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/successful-taxpayer-pledge-reception\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Taxpayer Pledge Recognition event in 2018<\/a>, Granite State Taxpayers this year, as it did in 2018, surveyed all candidates for State office to determine their positions on issues impacting Taxpayers. Of those candidates, 146 committed to taking the Pledge. The meeting organizers will reach out to invite as many more candidates as possible to take the Pledge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe intend to provide an opportunity for every New Hampshire candidate to take the Pledge and consider it as their guide as they deal with legislation,\u201d said Pine Tree Public Policy Institute President Stephen Stepanek.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/2020PledgeState.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pledge forms<\/a> will be available at the October 9th event for Candidates to sign, and to have their signature witnessed by Grover Norquist. Those who have already taken the Pledge can bring their certificates to have them signed.
