NH House Election Law Committee will Hear Testimony on Senate Bill 3 Tuesday April 18, 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

SB3 would require New Hampshire voters to be residents and provide documentation that they are.<\/strong>
\nCurrently, 47 states and the District of Columbia not only require voters to be residents and provide proof of residency, but also require period of residency up to 30 days before being allowed to vote.
\nIn Massachusetts, people who cannot provide proof of residency before the polls close, are not allowed to vote.<\/p>\n

Because of the laxity of our laws, people can vote in New Hampshire who are not residents here.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Requiring voters to be residents where they vote is not novel or “unconstitutional”. <\/strong>
\nThe Supreme Court stated in 1972 that:
\n\u201cStates have the power to require that voters be bona fide residents of the relevant political subdivision.\u201d<\/em>
\nIn 2012 and 2014, 16,978 people registered to vote in New Hampshire using out of state ID.
\nIn 2016, 6,540 people registered to vote here using out of state driver’s licenses.<\/p>\n

SB3 has passed the Senate and is now being reviewed by the House Election Law Committee.<\/strong>
\nThe Committee hearing will be on Tuesday 4\/18\/17 at 10:00 AM in the State House Representatives Hall.
\nGST<\/em> Chairman Ray Chadwick will again testify on behalf of SB3.<\/p>\n

Those of us who want to restore integrity to our election law should show our support for SB3.<\/strong>
\nAt the Senate Committee hearing on SB3, about 25 groups or individuals spoke against the bill.
\nThe only supporters were sponsor Senator Birdsell, Secretary of State Gardner and GST<\/em> Chairman Chadwick.<\/p>\n
