{"id":1705,"date":"2017-05-16T20:47:48","date_gmt":"2017-05-17T00:47:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/?p=1705"},"modified":"2017-05-24T14:35:11","modified_gmt":"2017-05-24T18:35:11","slug":"pass-sb3-in-the-nh-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/pass-sb3-in-the-nh-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Pass SB3 in the NH House 6\/1\/17!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The New Hampshire House of Representatives will vote Thursday 6\/1\/17 on Senate Bill 3.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SB3 would require New Hampshire voters to be residents and provide documentation that they are.<\/strong><br \/>\nCurrently, 49 states and the District of Columbia require voters to be residents and provide proof of residency.<br \/>\n47 states and the District of Columbia also require residency for up to 30 days before being allowed to vote.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Because of the laxity of our laws, people can vote in New Hampshire who are not residents here.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cThere is much discussion about whether voter fraud exists. When anyone can show up on Election Day, register using an out-of-state license, and provide no proof of living here, fraud is impossible to find\u201d, said GST Chairman Ray Chadwick. &#8220;What most people consider fraudulent can be done legally under current law.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Requiring voters to be residents where they vote is not novel or &#8220;unconstitutional&#8221;. <\/strong><br \/>\nThe Supreme Court stated in 1972 that:<br \/>\n<em>\u201cStates have the power to require that voters be bona fide residents of the relevant political subdivision.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\nIn 2012 and 2014, 16,978 people registered to vote in New Hampshire using out of state ID.<br \/>\nIn 2016, 6,540 people registered to vote here using out of state driver&#8217;s licenses.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We live in a State that knowingly allows people from other states to vote in our elections, without checking their legitimacy, in quantities large enough to determine the winner of our elections.
