{"id":396,"date":"2012-08-26T01:05:02","date_gmt":"2012-08-26T05:05:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/?p=396"},"modified":"2020-07-03T23:33:43","modified_gmt":"2020-07-04T03:33:43","slug":"results-of-2012-gst-candidate-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/results-of-2012-gst-candidate-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"Results of 2012 GST Candidate Survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Granite State Taxpayers Announces Results of the 2012 Candidate Survey<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cGranite State Taxpayers protects the rights of New Hampshire taxpayers by advocating for laws and regulations beneficial to taxpayers, for reducing government spending, and for more efficient government services,\u201d said James Adams, Chairman of the Granite State Taxpayers Board of Directors. \u201cIn July we sent questionnaires to candidates for New Hampshire State offices (Governor, Executive Councilor, Senate and House) to determine their positions on topics of interest to taxpayers. We\u2019ve posted their answers on our website for voters to see.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><em>The survey asked candidates their positions on the following questions:<\/em><br \/>\nWould you oppose any broad-based income, sales, or consumption tax, and any other increase in the overall tax burden in New Hampshire?<br \/>\nWould you support decreasing state spending or at least stopping any increase in state spending?<br \/>\nWould you support a management system for government based upon goals, reviews and  metrics for each program and department?<br \/>\nDo you believe that educational funding should be resolved by the legislature and not by the courts?<br \/>\nWould you support passing Right-to-Work legislation?<br \/>\nWould you support pension reforms for government employees including a transition from defined-benefit to defined-contribution plans?<br \/>\nWould you support ending Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative?<br \/>\nWould you oppose casino or other expanded gambling?<br \/>\n<em>A \u201cYes\u201d answer would indicate agreement with the Granite State Taxpayer position. Candidates were scored from 0% to 100% based upon their \u201cYes\u201d responses to the eight questions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of these are issues that relate to the level of state funding, to taxes, to the ability to balance budgets, to reduction and management of State obligations or to providing a business climate conducive to expanding our current business base and attracting others,\u201d said Adams.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/GSTCandidateSurvey2012Results.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here for results of the 2012 Candidate Survey, including candidate scores.<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/GSTCandidateSurvey2012Score100.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here for a list of candidates in agreement with all GST positions.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Granite State Taxpayers is New Hampshire&#8217;s oldest statewide taxpayer association.
