{"id":4145,"date":"2019-06-26T01:50:46","date_gmt":"2019-06-26T05:50:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/?p=4145"},"modified":"2019-06-27T22:30:05","modified_gmt":"2019-06-28T02:30:05","slug":"goodbye-voting-for-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/goodbye-voting-for-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodbye to Voting for President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact will end your ability to affect the Presidential Election.<\/strong><br \/>\nDemocrats in NH advanced <a href=\"http:\/\/gencourt.state.nh.us\/bill_status\/Results.aspx?q=1&amp;txtbillnumber=hb541&amp;txtsessionyear=2019\" target=\"_blank\">HB 541, allocating electoral college electors based on the national popular vote.<\/a>  <\/p>\n<p><strong>The National Popular Vote interstate compact would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalpopularvote.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to go to the National Popular Vote Webpage.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Per the US Constitution Article. II. Section. 1, the President shall be elected by the Electoral College.<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress.&#8221;<br \/>\n<strong>The National Popular Vote Compact retains the Electoral College, but subordinates it to a national vote.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The following table illustrates the allure of the National Popular Vote for Democrats:<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/2016PopularVoteTotals.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/2016PopularVoteTotals.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1870\" width=\"500\" height=\"200\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2862\"> <\/a><br \/>\nClinton&#8217;s 2,868,692 popular vote margin was due to New York City, Los Angeles County and District of Columbia.<br \/>\nCalifornia (4,269,978 for Clinton) or New York (1,736,590 for Clinton) alone would insure a Democrat victory.<\/p>\n<p>The National Popular Vote compact has been enacted into law in these 16 jurisdictions with 196 electoral votes: CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NM, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA.<br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/blue-wall-v2-2018-1-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Since 2012, 14 of those states voted for the Democrat in all 7 elections and 1 state in 6 elections.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The National Popular Vote compact will take effect when states with 74 more electoral votes enact it. <\/strong><br \/>\nThe bill has passed one house in 8 additional states with 75 electoral votes (AR, AZ, ME, MI, MN, NC, NV, OK)<br \/>\nIt has been approved by committee vote in two additional states with 26 electoral votes (GA, MO).<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/npv_bigstatessquaremap_v7-2019-05-20.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/npv_bigstatessquaremap_v7-2019-05-20.png\" alt=\"IMG_1870\" width=\"600\" height=\"480\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2862\"> <\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>In the current system, presidential candidates focus on &#8220;battleground&#8221; states.<\/strong><br \/>\nLaws in 48 states award all of their electoral votes to the winner of the popular votes in each state.<br \/>\nAs a result, candidates have no reason to focus on states where the outcome is a foregone conclusion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s an illustration of how the campaigns focused on battleground states in 2016.<\/strong><br \/>\nIn 2016, 94% of campaign events were in 12 states where Trump\u2019s support was between 43% and 51%.<br \/>\nTwo-thirds of the events (273 of 399) were in just 6 states (OH, FL, VA, NC, PA, MI).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/campaign-map-2016.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/campaign-map-2016.png\" alt=\"IMG_1870\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2862\"> <\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>If the National Popular Vote compact takes effect, your vote for President will be moot.<\/strong><br \/>\nRegardless of how New Hampshire citizens vote, the President will be elected by large Democrat states.<br \/>\nAs a result, the viability of the New Hampshire Primary, and our state&#8217;s political influence, will be lessened.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact will end your ability to affect the Presidential Election.
