{"id":4759,"date":"2020-03-20T15:03:09","date_gmt":"2020-03-20T19:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/?p=4759"},"modified":"2020-05-10T15:30:44","modified_gmt":"2020-05-10T19:30:44","slug":"domestic-migration-state-to-state-moves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/domestic-migration-state-to-state-moves\/","title":{"rendered":"Domestic Migration: State to State Moves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Domestic Migration: A Benefit of Federalism<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The United States is comprised of individual states, each having their own sovereignty.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.<\/em><br \/>\nThose powers are ones reserved specifically for the states or are of a traditionally state scope.<br \/>\nThese consist mostly of police powers, establishment of health regulations, licensing, and education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>States can deal with different issues in the fashion their people and representatives choose.<\/strong><br \/>\nConsequently, people are able to move to states that reflect their views and needs.<br \/>\nAbortion advocates might choose to live in a state with minimal prohibitions, like New Hampshire.<br \/>\nGun rights advocates would avoid the stringent regulations of a state like New York or Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Most interesting is the disparities in state tax structures and rates and the choices people make.<\/strong><br \/>\nWith few exceptions, people generally prefer to live in states that have a lower tax burden<br \/>\nThey then retain more of their earnings to spend as they, rather that State bureaucrats, see fit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This desire is evident in analyzing patterns of people moving from state to state.<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/NorthAmericantruckCA.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/NorthAmericantruckCA.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1870\" width=\"468\" height=\"405\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2862\"> <\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northamerican.com\/migration-map\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here to see the 2019 US Migration Report done by North American Moving Services.<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nNorth American states that moves are motivated by state taxes, climate and job prospects.<br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kiplinger.com\/slideshow\/taxes\/T054-S001-10-most-tax-friendly-states-in-the-u-s-2019\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">North American references a Kiplinger report on &#8220;The 10 Most Tax-Friendly States in the U.S.&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Economic outlook of states is affected by tax rates, regulatory burdens and labor policies.<\/strong><br \/>\nLow taxes and spending, controlling growth of government improve competitiveness and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lao.ca.gov\/LAOEconTax\/Article\/Detail\/265\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">States like California care about Domestic Migration, if only because it impacts their tax receipts.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atr.org\/taxpayers-fleeing-democrat-run-states-republican-ones\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Americans for Tax Reform related 2013 migration and AGI impact to Governors&#8217; party affiliation.<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Top 5 loser states for Democrat governors in 2013:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8211; New York (114,929 people with $5.7 billion in AGI)<br \/>\n&#8211; Illinois (68,943 people with $3.8 billion in AGI)<br \/>\n&#8211;
