{"id":5699,"date":"2010-09-09T00:01:07","date_gmt":"2010-09-09T04:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/?p=5699"},"modified":"2020-07-04T00:28:46","modified_gmt":"2020-07-04T04:28:46","slug":"results-of-2010-candidate-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/results-of-2010-candidate-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"Results of 2010 GST Candidate Survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Granite State Taxpayers Announces Results of the 2010 Candidate Survey<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cGranite State Taxpayers protects the rights of New Hampshire taxpayers by advocating for laws and regulations beneficial to taxpayers, for reducing government spending, and for more efficient government services,\u201d said Stephen Stepanek, Chairman of the Granite State Taxpayers Board of Directors. \u201cIn July we sent questionnaires to candidates for New Hampshire State offices (Governor, Executive Councilor, Senate and House) to determine their positions on topics of interest to taxpayers. We\u2019ve posted their answers on our website for voters to see.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><em>The survey asked candidates their positions on the following questions:<\/em><br \/>\nWould you support decreasing state spending or at least stopping any increase in state spending?<br \/>\nWill you oppose any broad-based tax, such as an income tax, sales tax, or consumption tax, or any other effort to increase the overall tax burden on New Hampshire citizens?<br \/>\nDo you believe that educational funding should be resolved by the legislature and not the court?<br \/>\nWill you support openness and accountability in state government by establishing a system of management based upon goals, reviews and metrics for each government program and department, plus putting state spending records on-line for the public?<br \/>\n<em>A \u201cYes\u201d answer would indicate agreement with the Granite State Taxpayer position. Candidates were scored from 1 to 4 based upon their \u201cYes\u201d responses to the four questions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of these are issues that relate to the level of state funding, to taxes, to the ability to balance budgets, to reduction and management of State obligations or to providing a business climate conducive to expanding our current business base and attracting others,\u201d said Stepanek.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/GSTSurveyMailingListNH100909.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here for results of the 2010 Candidate Survey, including candidate scores.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Granite State Taxpayers is New Hampshire&#8217;s oldest statewide taxpayer association.
