{"id":9669,"date":"2024-04-24T01:05:28","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T05:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/?p=9669"},"modified":"2024-04-24T01:28:13","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T05:28:13","slug":"national-popular-vote-moves-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/national-popular-vote-moves-forward\/","title":{"rendered":"National Popular Vote Compact has 209 Electoral Votes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The State of Maine has joined the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. <\/strong><br \/>\nMaine will now award its 4 Electoral College votes to the winner of the national popular vote.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalpopularvote.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">National Popular Vote Compact<\/a> would guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>The National Popular Vote Compact retains the Electoral College, but subordinates it to a national vote.<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/goodbye-voting-for-president\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GST reported June 26, 2019 in more detail on this effort and its impact on New Hampshire.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The National Popular Vote Compact has been enacted into law in 18 jurisdictions with 209 electoral votes: DC, DE, HI, ME, RI, VT, CO, CT, MD, MA, MN, NJ, NM, OR, WA, CA, IL, NY. <\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalpopularvote.com\/36-states-voted-same-party-6-presidential-elections-2000-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">States that have adopted the Interstate Compact reliability vote Democrat.<\/a><br \/>\nThe National Popular Vote Compact will take effect when states with 61 more electoral votes enact it.<br \/>\nThe bill has passed one house in 7 additional states with 74 electoral votes (AR, AZ, MI, NC, NV, OK, VA)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/status-of-npv-map-maine-enacts-2024-4-15.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/granitestatetaxpayers.org\/gst\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/status-of-npv-map-maine-enacts-2024-4-15.png\" alt=\"IMG_1870\" width=\"600\" height=\"480\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2862\"> <\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The following data from 2016 illustrates the allure of National Popular Vote for Democrats:<\/strong><br \/>\nClinton&#8217;s 2,868,692 popular vote margin came from New York City, Los Angeles County and DC.<br \/>\nCalifornia (Clinton +4,269,978) or New York (Clinton +1,736,590) alone would insure a Democrat victory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If the National Popular Vote compact takes effect, your vote for President will be moot.<\/strong><br \/>\nRegardless of how New Hampshire citizens vote, the President will be elected by large Democrat states.<br \/>\nAs a result, the viability of the New Hampshire Primary, and our political influence, will be lessened.<\/p>\n<p>Posted by GST Chairman Ray Chadwick<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The State of Maine has joined the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
