The GST Summary includes information on all public hearings this week.

There are several bills that GST recommends you consider commenting on:

SB287
Support
requiring applicants for absentee ballots to send a copy of photo ID with the application.
Senate Election Mar 11 9:30 AM LOB 103
Support SB 287 to require photo ID, but prefer HB217 that requires absentee ballot voters to submit proof of citizenship, age, domicile, and identity in order to qualify to vote. Voter ID provides more in-person election security; why should absentee voting be different?

HB456
Support
relative to testimony of agency employees in general court hearings.
House Leg Admin Mar 12 9:30 AM LOB 203
This bill requires that state agency personnel and employees only provide information to the committee as requested and shall not take a position in support of or opposition to a matter before the committee. Those testifying from state agencies should remain impartial and should not be acting as lobbyists.

HB1
Suggest Savings
making appropriations for the expenses of certain departments of the state for fiscal years ending June 30, 2026 and June 30, 2027.
HB2
Suggest Savings
relative to state fees, funds, revenues, and expenditures.
H Finance Mar 12 2:00 PM SH Reps
The biennial state budget, HB1 and HB2 will be having its public hearing. Other than the possible entertainment value of listening to many people ask for other people’s money, we don’t recommend attending. However, you may still be able to affect the state’s budget, especially if you have ideas of places to spend less, by sending those suggestions to the the House Finance committee as your testimony.
