GST Submitted Testimony Against HB 1531 which would keep Presidential Election results secret.

Click here for status information and a link to read the bill, which has the following summary:
“This bill prohibits officers, employees, and contractors of the state of New Hampshire and its political subdivisions from releasing information relating to the number of votes cast in an election, subject to certain exceptions. The provisions of the bill are suspended until states that cumulatively possess a majority of the electoral votes have enacted the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact in substantially the same form and the enactments by such states have taken effect in each state.”

GST Opposes HB 1531 because we and the public expect transparency in election results.
HB 1531 would prohibit public release of the number of votes cast in New Hampshire Presidential elections until after the time set by law for the meeting and voting of presidential electors has passed in all states.
HB 1531 is also conditioned upon the national popular Vote Interstate Compact, which GST opposes.

The House Election Law Committee met 1/28/20 to hear testimony.
