Taxpayers benefit from maintaining and expanding Republican majorities in Concord and in Washington DC.
Part I: A History of Reasons for Taxpayers to Elect Republicans in November 2026.
Granite State Taxpayers has the “Mission to inform, educate and motivate New Hampshire taxpayers and to lobby the legislature on their behalf.” It’s been impossible not to notice that only one of the two major political parties is consistently a supporter of Taxpayers by reducing taxes and spending.
In the run up to the 2026 Midterm election, it’s useful to recall examples of how the two parties acted on issues of taxation and spending. Examples from 2023 – 2024 are fresh in our minds. Here are some examples from earlier periods:
Why Support efforts to elect Republicans?
• When in the majority, Republicans leave more money and freedom with the citizens
• NH Republicans reduced tax rates on business, interest and dividends, rooms and meals and property.
• NH Republicans increased transfers of funds to the towns and cities for property tax relief.
• When Republicans controlled DC in 2017, they passed the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act.
• The result was business and job growth and repatriation of business, jobs, and wealth back to the US.
• That process resulted in a period of unprecedented economic growth and record low unemployment.
Why Support efforts to defeat Democrats?
• When they’re in the majority, Democrats take more of both our money and our freedoms
• In 2019 – 2020, NH Democrats passed taxes on income, sales and capital gains. Gov. Sununu vetoed all.
• Democrat majorities in DC passed tax increases, massive spending bills, and green agenda subsidies.
• Democrat President Biden constrained domestic energy production, raising the cost of energy.
• Democrat President Biden tried to shift responsibility for paying $300 Billion in student loans from the borrowers to the rest of us at a cost of about $2,000 for each of us who don’t have, or paid off loans.
• Under Democrat control in DC, we had historic inflation, recession, anarchy in our cities , an open border, and a fentanyl epidemic
Results in New Hampshire of 2 years (2021 – 2022) of Republican control of Government:
• Thriving economy that produced $430 million more in surplus than what was budgeted
• Increased the Rainy Day fund to about $250 million
• A budget that was $172 million less than the previous budget
• Wikipedia: NH had the lowest poverty rate in the nation and 8th highest for median household income
• NH’s unemployment rate was 3rd lowest nationally at 2.3%
• Cato Institute ranked NH #1 overall, #2 in Personal Freedom, #3 in both Fiscal and Economic Freedom
• The Tax Foundation rated our business climate as 6th best nationally, and our state and local tax burden as #16. The next closest state in New England was Rhode Island at #36
• WalletHub ranked the NH’s economy as the 5th best nationally
Democrats typically vote as a bloc, so expect any negative action will be supported by all:
• Every NH Democrat voted against the 2021 – 2023 NH budget. They voted against:
lower tax rates on business, interest and dividends, rooms and meals and property,
greater transfers of funds to the towns and cities for property tax relief,
expanded educational choice and against a ban on abortion after 24 weeks until birth
• Every NH Democrat voted against CACR 36 that would have required that voters in NH had to be US citizens and NH residents.
• In DC, beginning in 2021, Shaheen, Hassan, Pappas and Kuster all voted for the HR 1 takeover of every states’ election laws, for the “Inflation Reduction” spending and climate lobby support bill, and for various spending bills that brought inflation to 8% and the debt to $34 trillion.
Vote for EVERY REPUBLICAN on the ballot.
• The majority develops legislation, decides what bills and judges to vote on and who to investigate.
• A vote for every Republican is a vote for a Republican majority and for rational government.
• Failing to vote advances the Democrat, possibly giving them a win, and possibly a Dem majority.
