Granite State Taxpayers Announces Results of the 2014 Candidate Scorecard and Surveys

Granite State Taxpayers has posted the results of its review of votes in the past Legislative session and of its survey of 2014 candidates on it’s website at www.GraniteStateTaxpayers.org.

Granite State Taxpayers protects the rights of New Hampshire taxpayers by advocating for laws and regulations beneficial to taxpayers, for reducing government spending, and for more efficient government services,” said Ray Chadwick, Vice Chairman of the Granite State Taxpayers Board of Directors. “A legislator’s past voting record is relevant to deciding whether to support them if they are running for reelection in 2014. A candidate’s positions on topics of interest to taxpayers are also relevant. We’ve posted that information on our website for voters to review.”

In August 2014, GST reviewed the voting record of NH House legislators in the past session to determine how their votes support issues and programs that are beneficial to the interests of New Hampshire taxpayers. It also sent questionnaires to primary candidates for New Hampshire State offices (Governor, Executive Council, Senate and House) to determine their positions on topics of interest to taxpayers.

The surveys covered issues such as the overall tax burden in New Hampshire, efforts to control state spending, Right-to-Work, RGGI, pension reform, voter law, educational funding, Medicaid expansion and gambling. Candidates were scored from 0% to 100% based upon their agreement with the Granite State Taxpayers positions.

“All of these are issues that relate to the level of state funding, to taxes, to the ability to balance budgets, to reduction and management of State obligations or to providing a business climate conducive to expanding our current business base and attracting others,” said Chadwick.
